In June 1983, Corridor Press launched a new women’s magazine that crashed and burned before ever leaving the building. Prudent downsizing followed, including cutting Dennis Maconagy’s job. After seven years at Corridor, he learned that finding a new publishing job was near to impossible, especially in Williamstown, PA. When his unemployment checks ran out, he was forced to move to Virginia to live and work with his brother Jim.
Life was no better for them both. Jim earned barely enough to feed his wife and three kids on top of notes on two cars and a ballooning mortgage. The brothers managed by firing up weed while reliving golden college years, powerful counterculture days, and dreams of cushy academic jobs in the future. Instead, they watch others thrive by cutting corners peddling Mary Jane and the white magic powder. Before long, they realize that the good life could be theirs if they could pull off just the right single score.
